Frequently Asked Questions

When can I sign up for the Rotor Transition Program?
Apply for the Rotor Transition Program (RTP) as soon as you enroll in flight training by clicking here and completing the Pilot Pathway application. The sooner you apply, the sooner your RTP benefits will start.

Why should I join the Rotor Transition Program?
The SkyWest RTP provides a direct path for rotor pilots to enter the commercial aviation industry. You’ll begin accruing company seniority, will receive an enhanced introduction to SkyWest, and have access to mentors and interview prep. You’re also eligible for up to $17,500 in tuition reimbursement for fixed-wing transition training and an additional $7,500 bonus for military aviators.

Are non-U.S. military eligible for the military bonus?
The $7,500 military bonus is available for those with a DD214 form, which is specific to U.S. military personnel. All rotor pilots are eligible for up to $17,500 in tuition reimbursement.

When should I apply to the first officer position?
RTP pilots should apply as first officers once they are within 4-6 months of receiving their ATP or R-ATP requirements. This will help you transition into training and to start flying as quickly as possible.

For rotor/power lift pilots, what fixed-wing hours are needed to qualify for R-ATP?
You must have the following:

  • 250 PIC or SIC acting as PIC
  • 100 PIC Cross Country
  • 25 PIC Night
  • 25 Hours Multi in an airplane*

*Talk with your SkyWest recruiter if you need additional information.

Do military sorties count toward flight hour requirements?
No, we are not able to accept sortie conversions based on FAA requirements.

Are military sims accepted on logbooks?
For SIM time to count on your logbook, the SIM must be approved by the FAA. Military SIMs often do not meet this requirement.
